Make your own DVD movies with Subtitles on or just convert/watc - The Zeitgeist Movement

Make your own DVD movies with Subtitles on or just convert/watc 2 Months, 1 Week ago Feedback:
I have spent hours getting all the stuff needed to add subtitle files to DVD's and AVI files and to make mpeg movies to upload to youtube and this is what I got, maybe you find this usefull.

Firstly you will need to torrent files if you want to download the movies in a format that you can use.

I prefer AVI format.

I use Utorrent it can be downloaded from:
Utorrent:www.utorrent.com/
Now your ready to download your movies.

Search for whatever it is you want and download with utorrent or direct download from Google or Youtube, plz note that Youtube and Google downloads are not very good quality most of the time.

Zeitgeist addendum can be found at:

The Orientation Presentation can be found at:

( I'll add them later, if you know where they are plz add them)

You might need a file converter for your .srt .ass .ssa .ssl files

One I find very usefull is Subtitle workshop it can be found at:

Subtitle Workshop:www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/O...title-Workshop.shtml
If you are translating on pootle, ask lukas to send you the .srt file, so you can make your stuff.

If you are translating on dotsub:www.dotsub.com/ you will be able to download the .srt file as soon as the translation is done, plz consider that you might be doing double work and it is best to have a chat with Gman and lukas before you go and do stuff on dotsub.

You might also want to check what has been done on both dotsub and pootle before you go translating stuff for your chapter or whatever.

If you want to upload a .srt file to dotsub that has been translated on pootle you will need to use Subtitle Workshop or a similar prog to convert the .srt file to a .SSL file to upload it to dotsub, two flies with one go hey:)

P.s The Encoding is UTF-8 Subtitle Workshop recognizes ANSI and some other encodings, and if you dont have the correct encoding set some characters will look funny.

Now maby you want to edit your subtitle a little, like add colour, or shadow or a specific font or size or whatever.

Aegisub (Very nice prog and easy to use with lots of info.):blog.aegisub.org/
Now heres a tip you might find very usefull: When using Aegisub you will note it wants to save files as: .ass but then how do you get them to .srt, or other formats you can use directly from within Aegisub?

You export them with the extension you want, or you can open them up again with Subtitle Workshop and convert them. Now Aegisub is not necessary to have to do this, it just makes nicer subtitles than the others I have used.

Now you are ready to add your subtitle to your movie and there are two ways to go about it:
Firstly if you want to make a DVD you will need to get a prog that can either combine the subtitle directly or one that can add more subtitles and menus to the movie.

I use DVD flick

DVD flick:www.dvdflick.net/
Let me tell you what and what not to do when using this program, dont do pretty much anything else on your pc cept maybe Irc chat, when you run this program it'll pull round 1800-2000 + mb of ram when working, so if you wanna crash its not a good Idea to be downloading and surfing.

Geforce 6 or higher Graphics card will be best, I still have Geforce 5, but it works for me since I have around 2500mb of ram extra. It's actually very slow!

Set your screen properties to 16 bit, and not 32.

Use the below Normal rate, I have found that anything above that can let my pc heat up to much or stall. The quality is better the slower it works.

You can also add more than one file like lets say you want to put in Zeitgeist addendum with a sub as well as well as the Orientation Presentation then you can put both on and DVDflick will make them smaller to fit them both onto one DVD disk.

I set it all up, disconnect everything else and let it run while I'm sleeping.

The prog makes you ISO files as well, and it is relevant if you want to do conversions into other formats like mpeg etc. if you want to upload them to youtube. etc

Now lets say you just want to make a conversion and hardsub your subtitle on and make a Mpeg movie or something similar to upload to say Youtube or Google:
You will need to do the following:

Ifo ir Iso file of the movie. Since i use DVDflick I can make ISO directly and store it on the harddrive and then convert it.

There are many ways you can add subtitle files without using DVDflick if it is too slow for you.

Here is a link to a vid on youtube i have found most usefull:

How to add subtitles on your AVI files ( plz dont embed this video, you will make the wave very slow )
You will need to get Virtualdub to do this it can be found at

Virtual Dub:www.virtualdub.org/
And .srt to .ssa converter, I use: Subtitle Workshop:www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/O...title-Workshop.shtml
Please note that I use a different Subtitle converter than the one on the video.

Convert your .srt file to .ssa using your convertion program.

there is a plugin, (watch the video) that you need to add into the Virtual Dub Plugin directory to be able to get your subtitle file onto the movie file.

Here is the link to the plugin I use:

Subtitler Pluging for Virtual Dub:www.afterdawn.com/software/video_softwar...subtitler_plugin.cfm
now, when you download the plugin save it to Virtual dub plugin directory and then extract it then, then follow the steps on the video to add the .ssa file to your AVI file.

Plz remember to set your compression before you make the movie. Watch the video and follow the steps, its really that easy:)

Now lets say you dont want to make your own DVD but still want to watch the movie on your pc with the subtitle on:

Download VLC media player at:

VLC media player:www.videolan.org/vlc/

All you need is the Avi file and the .srt file.
Open VLC click on Advanced open file and select the AVI file, then add the subtitle file and click on play:)
If you have suggestions, post them plz
I have made a Wave with all the info on as well, If you want one, let me know;)

Thx and Love ya'll
